CONTACT IMPROVISATION WORKSHOPS

THE RYTHM AND THE TOUCH

Dancing together, through connectedness or touch, requires a deep sense of listening. Sometimes it leads to delicate listening, sometimes it leads to challenging surprises within the communication between partners. This contrast creates something precious : a sense of rhythm.

Hélène Marcelle’s workshop is all about musicality. How can we build up a shared dance with an ongoing quality and then, turn to variations, transiting sharply from one mode to another? In other words: how can our dance be music? And if there’s music played all along the dance, how do we connect to the sounds or the style of the music?

On Friday, the class starts a little earlier and concludes with a contact impro jam that goes on until 10pm. The jam is also open for dancers who didn't participate in the workshop!
